the black bird and the cherry tree

A new bird that I painted last week. It got sold over the weekend at the craft show I attended, so I couldn't enjoy having it for too long. But I'm happy it found a home. :)

IF: entangled

I'm reposting this one for Illustration Friday's topic entangled as I think it fits perfectly.
Her long hair is so entangled that a bird mistaken it for a nest and decided to live there. Well...she's not so happy about it.
(The idea for the painting  came from my daughter's long hair that is really hard to brush out sometimes :)

purple swallow

As I promised earlier... I'm posting my new paintings as they are done. This week I'm really busy with finishing paintings....and don't have much time to sit at the computer, but I thought I post this fast.
The bird was inspired by a Hungarian children's poem which is one of my favourites. I've tried to find a translated version of the poem, but I couldn't :( and I'm really not good at translating poems. So I guess you just all need to learn Hungarian ;)
So here's the poem:

Nemes Nagy Agnes: Lila Fecske

Piros dróton ült a fecske,
piros dróton lila folt,
mert a fecske lila volt.
Ült a dróton egymagában,
ibolyaszín kiskabátban,
lila volt a háta, szárnya,
földre hullott lila árnya,
gyufa-vékony, lila lábon
álldogált a piros ágon,
lila volt a szeme csíkja
lila, mint a
lila tinta.

Április volt, jött az este,
meg sem mozdult az a fecske.
Április volt, április,
én hagytam ott végül is.
Lila csőr,
lila toll,
most is ott ül valahol

IF: music

What a great topic this week! And so many possibilities to interpret! I love music and I get inspired by it all the time. I'm always listening to music while I'm painting or drawing...one thing I cannot be without. I grew up playing violin but I realized early on I had more talent to visual arts then music so while my brothers became musicians I pursue art instead.
I have a few works that could fit for this topic, but since some have already been posted on this site I decided to pick one that's not up here yet. It is a painting that brings up happy and sad memories.
The fairies playing a beautiful welcoming song for the princess, who's entering the magical forest....where trees come alive and fairies happily dancing...and where dreams come true .....
This mural  was painted for a little girl who was battling with cancer and wished to be a princess with long hair and fairy wings. She was really happy when she first saw herself in the finished painting and though she could not talk that time she gave me the biggest hug. I never forget that moment. Unfortunately she lost her battle............and we all miss her very much. I hope she is happy now wherever she is.....and maybe....she has wings and she's playing with fairies.

IF: unbalanced

This poster was one of my graphic design projects. I think it's suitable for this week's topic "unbalanced" as it meant to raise awareness of the issue of child mortality in third world countries. Have you ever thought about how lucky we are who live in developed countries that we can pick and choose which vaccinations we want and protect ourselves against diseases, whereas in poor countries children dying from easily preventable diseases because of the lack of medicines, vitamins and vaccinations.
The poster was made for the good50x70 poster design competition which helps social communication. My design was not picked out of the thousands that entered, but it gave me a great satisfaction designing for this subject. :)

trapped

Another busy week...I'm getting ready for an art's and crafts show at the end of this month and I'm working on some new paintings.I will post them as they get finished. ;)
I'm posting this picture for this week because I feel kind of trapped in the meaning of finding myself in a situation that I cannot escape from.
This painting has been sold a few weeks ago and sometimes I miss looking at it on my own wall, but I know it's in good hands. I think in a way we artists feel connected to all our artworks as they are a  part of us...a reflection of our feelings, thoughts or memories, and I think we are allowed to miss them sometimes :)

IF: skinny

..."How come she is so tall and skinny?" fumed the two little mushrooms.
Well this is my graphite sketch for this week's topic "skinny". I had couple of ideas to go with but I ended up choosing this one.I love doing mushrooms (as I mentioned earlier) and I enjoyed turning them into a character this time. I think I will make this into a painting later on.
